which is a mediat o r of apoptosis, is induced by
gamma interferon. DAP kinases represent a novel
kinase family, which mediates apoptosis through
their catalytic activities (1). Results suggest that
DAPK3, in collab o r ation with Daxx a n d Par-4, mediates
a novel nuclear pathway f o r apoptosis (2). It has
been shown that the nuclear serine/threonine-specific
kinase phosph o r ylates c o r e histones H3 a n d H4,
a n d myosine light chain in vitro. HeLa ZIPK phosph
o r ylated the regulat o r y light chain of myosin II
(MRLC) at both serine 19 a n d threonine 18 in
a Ca2+/calmodulin independent manner. It interacts
with transcription a n d splicing fact o r s as well as
with pro-apoptotic protein Par-4 suggesting that
it participates in multiple cellular processes (3).
